Volunteer At New Heights

Community Food Network

Driver - Community Food Network

Option 1: 3rd Monday @ 10 AM, Driver to take our CFN truck from Benton Heights to SMCAA (downtown Benton Harbor) the third Monday each month at 10:00 a.m.  The job requires little physical strength (30-35 pre packed boxes of food are loaded by SMCAA, not the driver), and takes 45-60 minutes round trip.

Option 2: First and third Thursdays pick up between 10-12 a.m. and deliver to Benton Heights campus. Little physical strength required. Total round-trip time required to complete the job is a little more than an hour.

Option 3: Second and fourth Tuesdays pick up between 7:30-8:30 a.m., and deliver to St Joe campus. Little physical strength required. Total round-trip time required to complete the job is a little more than an hour.

Administrative Support 

When: Flexible, job typically happens M-Th 8:30 - 4:00 PM

Where: St. Joseph Campus or home

Requires approximately 1.5 hours per week, and includes updating and printing sign-in sheets, compiling data from the sign-in sheets, and miscellaneous other administrative tasks.

Workout buddy

When: Monday’s, 6 PM - 7 PM

Where: First Church - Benton Heights

The YMCA is offering free workout classes at the Benton Heights Campus, currently Thai Chi, and we need people who will commit to coming to the classes and being a workout buddy (befriend) the attendees. This will be a fun relational ministry.


Hull Middle School

Hull Classroom Volunteer

When: 1-2 hrs per week, ends in June

Where: Hull International Academy, Benton Heights

Brief description: Volunteers will be assigned to a classroom, K-2nd grade, and will assist the teacher 1-2 hours per week. Tasks will be based on the needs of the teacher, bulletin boards, grading papers, reading with students, etc. The goal is to be an encouragement and support to the teachers. As of 4/30/18 5 volunteers are still needed.


Benton Heights After-school Reading Program 

Reading Buddy

When: Fall: Oct - Dec.; Spring: Feb - Apr

Where: Benton Heights Campus

Brief description: Assist community children ages first through 5th grades with reading/literacy program.  Program runs one day a week. Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.


New Heights Auto Services

Volunteer Mechanic

When: Saturday, 8 am - 12 pm

Where: 1203 Pipestone, Benton Harbor

Brief description: Assist with the repair of New Heights vehicles. No experience needed as we always have experienced mechanics on-site.

Volunteer Detailer

When: As needed, flexible

Where: 1203 Pipestone, Benton Harbor or in your own home

Brief description: Detail cars that are about to be provided
